Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Oil on Board
2013

Most beef in the First World is fed on GM corn. I have an old wooden box marked 'Corned Beef' which got me thinking about those words. Corn originally comes from Mexico and the corn cobs painted in this picture actually come from there. Our 'Lady of Gaudalupe' refers to Mexico and how we may have to hail Mary to help us out of the mess we have made with feedlots, monoculture and genetically modified food to feed the endless human need for meat. The pumpkin refers to the festival of the dead All Hallows Eve or All Souls Day, more popularly known as Halloween in the States. This picture could be renamed Scary Tales.
