I have been moved to paint the painful and tragic story of the Mozambican Ernesto Alfaberto Nhamuave who was burnt to death in the xenophobic riots in South Africa in 2009. The recent riots in 2015 saw another outbreak of these killings with intolerance by black South Africans have towards fellow Africans. It grieves me to be part of a nation that meters out such cruelty as this man suffered.
